Olaf Ransome joins Daymi as Global Ambassador

Daymi is proud to announce Olaf Ransome as its Global Ambassador. Olaf has over  37 years of experience in  investment & private banking operations. He has worked for Salomon Brothers, Goldman Sachs and Credit Suisse and since 2009 Olaf has been running his own consultancy firm, 3C Advisory, helping tier-1 banks and investment companies with operations, FX, CLS, as well as digital assets.

In financial services (FS), effective control over daily business is an evergreen topic; it is essential. I am a “control hawk”; I want to have perfect controls in any business, so we are not relying on our memory, or on any superheroes and their heroics.” says Olaf.

At Daymi, these are the kind of topics that we wrestle with everyday from a product and implementation perspective. We’ve built a platform used by more than 60 Financial Services companies, including banks, fund administrators, fund companies, insurance companies and wealth managers – but we’ve only just started.

With the help of Olaf, Daymi will strengthen its advisory team that will provide input on the product, the market and help spread awareness about the Daymi platform.

A few quick words with Olaf

Hi Olaf, could you tell us a little bit about your background?

“I’ve been in banking in its various forms for about 37 years. I started out processing manual tickets at Salomon Brothers back in the days when Michael Lewis’ was an investment banker and Liar’s Poker was what was going on at Salomon.

I’ve since worked at Goldman Sachs, and at Credit Suisse, as well as for many clients around the globe.”

What are your key learnings from your experience, from an operational standpoint?

“Good controls are a function of people, process and tools. The right tools enable people to execute the processes each day. The actions which keep the wheels going round.

The world of FS is quite automated and quite reliable. Still, things can and do go wrong. The nature of day-to-day work in financial services is that we can’t do all of today’s tasks at once and sometimes we have to do them over a few days.

We all forget things sometimes. And now and again that forgetfulness will have consequences – and they’ll be some combination of undesirable, unpleasant and costly. Things don’t go wrong often, but when they do, one or both of two things is bound to be true:

Either it goes wrong on somebody who may not normally do the job, Lorraine the super-hero is not in the office or, or even and the person who normally does the job might not remember what they did last time”

This is something that aligns with Daymi, what is your view on the Daymi tool?

“I believe greater control over your business is worth striving for – to increase your capacity and lower your costs. I’m super impressed with the tool, because it really is super easy to use, it does not require a programmer, and has all the proper audit trail support which you just can’t get from an Excel spreadsheet. And you don’t need to change everything across your whole company to put it to use.

This tool is useful, straight out of the box and even if only one team or department in your firm uses it.  This is a tool for the folks in the field, it does not matter whether the top brass miles away in headquarters use it or not, it does not matter if other teams or areas use it. You can help yourself in your team.”
